Message from Our Founder

Elena Valith, FRAIC, Principal Architect

When I established AetherForge Valith Architecture over fifteen years ago, I envisioned a practice that would bridge the gap between past and future, between human needs and environmental responsibility.

Growing up in Toronto, I witnessed firsthand the tension between urban development and heritage preservation. Too often, beautiful historic buildings were demolished to make way for new construction, erasing irreplaceable pieces of our collective memory. At the same time, I saw unsustainable development patterns that prioritized short-term gains over long-term resilience.

This duality shaped my architectural philosophy: we don't have to choose between preservation and progress, between beauty and sustainability, between honoring tradition and embracing innovation. The most meaningful architecture emerges when we integrate these seemingly opposing forces.

Every project we undertake reflects this integrated approach. Whether we're restoring a Victorian-era commercial building, designing a net-zero residential development, or reimagining urban public spaces, we're guided by the same core principles: respect for context, commitment to craftsmanship, environmental stewardship, and unwavering focus on human experience.

Foundation

Elena Valith establishes AetherForge Valith Architecture in Toronto with a vision to integrate sustainable design and heritage preservation.

2011

First Major Heritage Project

Completed restoration of the historic Gooderham Building, earning provincial recognition for excellence in heritage conservation.

2014

Sustainable Design Leadership

Achieved our first LEED Platinum certification, establishing the firm as a leader in sustainable architecture across Canada.

2017

National Recognition

Received the Governor General's Medal in Architecture for the revitalization of Toronto's Distillery District adaptive reuse project.

2020

Expansion & Innovation

Expanded services to include comprehensive urban planning solutions and established our sustainability consulting division.
